Workplace Learning Illawarra (WLI) is a not for profit, incorporated association. Our vision is that the Illawarra region values a high quality technical education afforded through Vocational Education and Training, meeting the future needs of Australia’s economy and the aspirations of individuals as they make their transitions from school to the workforce and beyond, and a region with strong school, business and industry links that invest in the future of young Australians.

Our aim is that 13 – 19 year olds in the Illawarra region have access to the best possible range of career advice and workplace learning experiences to ensure they can make informed choices in their transition from school to work or further education and training.

Commencing its operation in April 1997, our program has facilitated the provision of structured workplace learning opportunities for students in the Illawarra.

In January 2006, Workplace Learning Illawarra was successful in gaining an Australian Government contract to deliver Local Community Partnership, Career and Transition Programmes in the Wollongong region.  The programmes are Structured Workplace Learning, Career and Transition Support and Adopt a School.

Workplace Learning Illawarra will assist all young people aged 13 – 19 years to gain the skills, experience and professional guidance to help them achieve a successful transition through school, and from school to further education, training or employment. To achieve this, WLI will partner with industry and employer groups, school, professional career advisers, community organisations, parents, young people, youth service providers and other government organisations.
