Work Placement

Work placement is a mandatory component of industry-based Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses that you can choose as part of your studies for the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC). It is a planned opportunity in a quality host workplace that enables you to practice and develop your industry competencies and your employability skills in a vibrant real work context.

• Looks great on your resumes and reference.

• You receive an industry qualification at completion of HSC.

• Work placement may lead to a job with the host employer.

• You attend and assist in a business for one week (35 hours)

• You put into practice the skills you have learnt in the classroom.

• You get to try a career before you decide on undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship.

School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBATs) are more than just part-time jobs – they’re a great way to set yourself up for the career you want whilst you are completing your HSC.

SBATs are available to all Year 10, 11 and 12 high school students in NSW. They allow students to commence an apprenticeship or complete a traineeship while at school.

A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship combines paid work, training and school; as well as an industry recognised national qualification, you will gain credit towards the HSC.
Some apprenticeships and traineeships can contribute towards the ATAR.

Opportunities are available across a wide range of occupations. Each offers you a chance of getting paid for real work experience, while gaining a nationally-recognised qualification and contributing towards your HSC studies.
